Annie Turner is a huge inspiration for my work. Turner’s work is poetic in a sense that
it communicates before it is understood by the viewer.
Turner’s makings also highlight the traditional and ancestral techniques within her hand crafted forms.
Turner produces very delicate shapes much of which represents the delicacy of the river in Suffolk.
Much of her emphasis is on the history and her experience with this river, both past and present.
She uses two forms to communicate the objects by retaining and translating.
Imprinting operates as a way to ‘trigger a memory of a particular time’ (Turner, 2014).
The other is that she uses the imprints then to translate the various moments in the timeline manner
of the rivers history but as a metaphorical method of translating her experiences.
Turner herself states her work is assembled by a poetic format,
just like ‘poetry communicates before it is understood’ (Turner, 2014).
Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most inspirational Painters since my childhood.
Van Gogh used distinctive shapes and patterns to explore and simplify his love for nature.
He creates rich and colourful paintings by using a stylistic technique that consists of thick layers of oil paint,
which immediately appeals the viewer visually and sensually.
Van Gogh’s style of working constructs such an energetic impact on the viewer,
often portraying the emotions he encountered.
The powerful visual presence is created by Van Gogh's deliberate symbolic response.
