My work explores the effects of the erosion of geological landscapes
through observing one particular place of personal interest – The Conor Pass in
Kerry. The deterioration of the lands surface through erosion is evident, producing delicate and uneven forms.
The texture of the land is an essential element adding definition and
shape to our experience.
The colour of the place is also an influencing factor within my work, demanding
that I develop and experiment with a wide range of natural and artificial
colorants.
I highlight the fragility of these weathered land forms through the layering
of material. The final concern in my work is the evidence of human interference - man-made
objects such as roads signs and road markings.
These vivid objects become a
distraction, creating a focal point which cannot go unnoticed. Through the visual and the tactile, I attempt to communicate my sensory
experiences of engaging with these scenic land forms.
